Will Eddington be the Anora or The Substance of 2025/26?
While we are in ‘bee mode’, The Swarm [1978] is a film you won’t quickly forget: one of those 70s disaster movies with a stellar cast. One of the worst films ever made according to Halliwell's film guide. Nah, surely Critical Drinker has a far worse list! Know I have.
Newborn Queen is Singing for Her Bees Not exactly Doris Day but now we know where minimalist composers got their inspiration;)
The Unbearable Lightness of Being [1988]
One couldn’t hope to find a more fair-minded, curious, caring human than journalist/broadcaster Louis Theroux. His style more quizzical than wry even as darkness envelops.
Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk
When Jimmy Fallon praises something as un-BEE-lievable you know we’re in a special world! Only Tom Cruise, only, could get a humming-bird and bee knighthood same breath! Not sure what is the EGOT of un-human flying yet seems no competition now!
It is lucky that it is not windy today. Strange, how in some way one always has the impression of being fortunate, how some chance happening perhaps infinitesimal, stops us crossing the threshold of despair and allows us to live. It is raining, but it is not windy. Primo Levi
The Balfour Declaration: Palestine, Israel and Britain One Hundred Years on
I hope Elias Rodriguez who killed in cold blood last night receives a fair trial particularly with what’s now happening now in America. Listen, wait! Instead of demonizing wouldn’t it be useful to know what on earth he hoped to achieve with pre-meditated murder on non-specific individuals? Was he mentally ill and if so how so? If he waited outside the event surely he must have known what the event stood for: understanding not hatred. Perhaps not. Then there’s the question of the shooter asking Museum folk inside to call police and waiting patiently 10-15minutes. Of course they knew not he was the killer. Did he still have the gun? If so, were there bullets left? If so, he chose not to kill anyone else. If not, he chose against threatening/intimidating stuff in the Museum. And he chose [maybe not consciously] not to pretend he had a bomb which would of course got him even more attention and a prolonged stand-off. We cannot ask what went on in Aaron Bushnell’s mind, killing only himself, when he self-immolated outside D.C.’s Israeli Embassy. Maybe only his cat left behind at home understood. Having a ‘bee in your bonnet’ taken to new Golan Heights!
Rodriguez shouted “Free Palestine” as he was arrested not Intifada. Certainly his actions weren’t of the latter. Has everyone forgotten President Jimmy Carter!? He wrote a forward to Mary King’s book: “The Palestinians' nonviolent resistance in the first intifada, documented here, contested military occupation from a store of classic methods used on every continent in today's world, as people fight for human rights and justice with concern for the connection between the ends and means. The joint grassroots Israeli-Palestinian committees were imagining a future that can yet be created. As Palestinian local leaders rebutted the empty premises of violent ideologies, strong efforts should have been made by the international community to fortify their resolve, which could have weakened the extremism that brought violence. How little encouragement was offered to those who were working for abandonment of the mythologies of violence!" "
Michael D. Shear in yesterday’s [May 22] NYT quotes: “But the campuses normalized hate and anathematized Jews,” Rabbi Wolpe said. “Against that backdrop, violence is as unsurprising as it is appalling. After all, ‘globalize the intifada’ looks a lot like this.”
In my view this totally misrepresents student protest throughout the world. Sure there will always be rogue elements as there are in every protest unlike, arguably, the Jan 6 capital riots where 174 police officers were injured. Not rogue.
Do the protests unintentionally globally fan the flames of anti-Semitism? Regrettably the answer is probably yes. Yet Israel itself is no different: BBC: Addressing MPs on Tuesday, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy singled out the words of Israel's hardline Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who had spoken of "cleansing" Gaza, "destroying what's left" and relocating the civilian population to third countries. Israeli opposition MP forcefully removed.
Have student protestors ever expressed such extremism towards Israel?
BBC: “Yair Golan, a left-wing politician and former deputy commander of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), sparked outrage on Monday when he said: "Israel is on the way to becoming a pariah state, like South Africa was, if we don't return to acting like a sane country.”
Love ‘h’m/hate ‘h’m, Piers Morgan always interested in hearing answers: so ‘Put That on Your Plate’ Chekhov!
Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert [and Mayor of Jerusalem for 10 years]: ”This is nonsense, they are a group of thugs that are running the state of Israel these days and the head of the gang is Netanyahu - this is a gang of thugs.”
When you see such footage from Israel, you wonder why it took so long for people to listen. Fact is that the so called ‘looney Left’ Pro-Palestinian students of the world are totally outnumbered by the so-called totally sane Israelis. Just watch the footage. Speaks for itself. Why aren’t these Israelis arrested if student protestors are arrested? Of course we all know why! How does any American President justify to assembly line workers or workers’ workers tax-payers dollars supporting the Israeli military? That’s surely a no-brainer sell. Though Trump being being be Trump will sell it! Though maybe not for much longer!?
And now we just learned Congo is South Africa is the Bronx is les banlieues, does it matter witch? They’re near Oz-y-mandias. That’s where the cute little bears with webbed feet jump out of the Seine and devour you! Oh mensch! we need some tough FROG love! That ponds sounds strangely, hauntingly familiar…Kermi? …PAPA!
