Come in From the Rain

Out on Netflix 2 days ago June 28 (after a Cannes Fest opening in May) is a film no one could have an excuse to miss nor to give a strong opinion about.

                                                                                                                  OKJA

It is the brainchild of great South Korean director Bong Joon-ho (co-written by Bong and Jon Ronson). It all sounds rather ‘hokey’ and well meaning, and in lesser hands may well have been. Mr. Bong enlisted the great cinematographer Darius Khondji- a man not too proud to helm [sic] a Netflix film. A simple tale so perilously full of clichés you think it may teeter over the edge. It never does. Why? The strength of storytelling. And the strength of someone that believes the world could be a helluva lot better place than it ever is. Its American protagonist (Tilda Swinton) quintessentially: a road to hell paved with good intentions. Ibsen's ghosts forever unforgiven and unrequited. Its wildlife protagonist Okja giving Babe unheard of competition without the faintest thought of little gold man Oscar. (just one cavil Mr Bong: you should have had an end title roll song by ME - collaborating with even more amazing talent as young as !!!! :) The film is hightened realism (termed in theater 'naturalism').

Staying for end credits is kind of 'geeky'. Oftentimes filmmakers plog 'bloopers' to make more interesting. Mr Bong goes for a final punchline (secretly subliminally hoping that you will somewhat remember the great talents that made the film give birth and remain alive). A 'gold Pig' song would have been totally cool. Wouldn't it?

As President Trump trumpets his wrestling (btw, I was once a contender sir) not all news is false! ...I hear certain agencies are trying to GMO art critic Jerry Saltz in times of honest 'crit' shortage. Not sure where that thought is leading...

Cities, like dreams, are made of desires and fears, even if the thread of their discourse is secret,                                                             their rules are absurd, their perspectives deceitful, and everything conceals something else.
