There's only 30min to watch the utterly enchanting 1975 Andrew Lloyd Webber musical By Jeeves (but if you start streaming before 1pm (Eastern) you can probably keep watching and then watch the 3pm Broadway Does Mother's Day. By Jeeves (based on the series of novels and short stories by P. G. Wodehouse) was rather a flop initially. The lyrics and book by Alan Ayckbourn bring a smile every moment, let alone his consummate direction. If you liked One Man, Two Guvnors then odds on you'll chortle at By Jeeves. This great cast make comedy look so simple.
“Father would not like us to be afraid.”….The King and I (Bart Scher-Lincoln Center production though the London Palladium filming) streams until around 8pm (Eastern). Take of your Sunday cloths an have a…..
Kitty: 153, 67, meow, Royal Cat!:)…
Kitty: I sang a wrong note;(
Andrew: No, I sang the wrong note.
Kitty: NO. I did.
Andrew: OK.
Kitty: [looks a little feisty]
Andrew: well, we won't tell the Maestro. The rabbit's gonna love getting this.
Kitty: could we re-record it? What if the good ear hears that wrong note? I don't want a disappointed rabbit.
Andrew: OK. We can do that.
Kitty: Maybe we could do it at 3am again. Kitty sings better in the middle of the night.
Andrew: You're great all the time, Kit. I'm the one you have to watch.
Kitty: Meow.
t’b’ c’’t
Kitty: Just learnt a new song for the rabbit!
Andrew: So you don't want to re-do..
Kitty: YES! It'll be like a reencatment.
[Andrew smiles] A song for each ear.
Andrew: [smile, pause] You know that Woof-Balls commercial, [Kitty looks up knowingly] well, very funny. They chose a dog.
Kitty: Not Sooty-Dog?
Andrew; No, no , no. Sooty's helping rescues adjust to crazed Covid owners. That dog from the TV comedy series, umm
Kitty: Can't even remember his name!
Andrew: LOL, well, not only can't we remember his name, it took him 57 takes just to say 'Woof', and then another 32 to bark 'Balls'. Just couldn't string together two words.
Kitty: Poor 'Woof Balls'.
Andrew: He is VERY popular though.
Kitty: All he does is go 'Woof' and all the creatures laugh. So boring.
Andrew: Not that different from human talent.
Kitty: Except Ricky. He's so funny. Animal.
Some love out tonight for actor Ben Stiller whose actor dad just died. Has everyone seen Noah Baumbach's While We’re Young? Just great and so real. Jerry Stiller enjoyed a great career as a working actor/comedian-had a good detective role in The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (the 1974 film, remade recently). They made movies back when….
Kitty: Can I paw the button [all excited].
Andrew: Ok, I trust you.
[She hits upload. Wait. They listen together to the song.
It concludes. There is silence for a while. Andrew is very impressed.]
Kitty: Whadda you think?
Andrew: Maybe a little too operatic…
Kitty: [Kitty looks a bit devastated] But..mho,mm I did everything right like you taught me [Kitty becomes more distraught]
Andrew: No, it's great..just..
Kitty: [more distraught] but I wanted to make it really special for the rabbit, I , I ..[she starts crying]…
Andrew: oh, Kit, shh..shhh…shhh
Kitty: I…I…I…[she sobs between every word] I, ,,,I,,,..they treated me exactly the same. They were horrible….
Andrew: [he doesn't know quite what to do or say]..shhh, shhh
Kitty: I wan…ted..it to be special…[she puts her paws over her eyes and starts hitting her head].
Andrew: [he doesn't touch or stroke her knowing that would be exactly the wrong thing to do] Oh Kit. It was…fantastic. Don't be silly! The rabbit's gonna love this. You know what I'm like. Your biggest fan! Come on..I was a bit drunk last night and sang a wrong note…it's no big deal. As long as you get the message across. [Kitty almost interrupts] You totally 'meowed' this song. No wrong notes. It ain't easy.
[Kitty has calmed down and pawed an Andrew T-Shirt near-by to clean up.]
Kitty: Dispiace…[with renewed vigor] OK. Let's re-record the other song. At 3am. Cat time! And GET the note right!
[her solemn face flashes a smile then returns to solemn. All benevolent.]
