KITTY is roaming the Miami Basel Art Fair for the first time. Is that a problem for anyone? Vassar students and liberal fascists banned from all beaches purr the Cat Pledge. Unless your parents/crows are really rich, witch case ….no one gives a shit where the Monet comes from. Until they are finally caught.
Merci, merci beaucoup, Vassar. Très, très gentil! Bon Noel!
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie: Author warns about 'epidemic of self-censorship'
So sweet of Marian Goodman Gallery to use an emoji of a younger ANDREW (cousine) on their website:) -beach-2022/That string bracelet sucks young Jersey Shore girl never listening to drunken mutta!
Is Meryl Streep afraid of diminutive directors?= From the set of Ben Purrr.
Here are a few of KITTY’s Meow’ami Basel pensive ‘fave’ things:
Les Yeux qui tombent (Falling Eyes), 2000
Jonathas de Andrade-Pagar com a língua [Pay with the tongue], 2022
The indefatigable Hollis Taggart. What finds. Such is the art world!
Berry Campbell has always done wonders for great artists who some some reason slipped through the net.
You know: whether it broke my heart or made me want to strangle this guy when I saw him throw a Berry Campbell beautiful laminated free fold out essay brochure in the bin a few doors down after a reception. Why take it if you ain’t the least bit interested? ! Guess I’m a …beam me up;((
Have Vassar students read these two books: !
Patrick Radden Keefe, Empire of Pain
Fuck Wittgenstein, Nietzsche let’s dance….Be happy…
Never thought it could possibly happen to you? Only in Kafka. Photographer Nan Goldin never imagined she’d become an opioid addict through oxycontin. But she did. The Panic in Needle Park. But the sweet young girl did. You’d never think you’d be the one drinking an 8% beer/cider at 9am in the morning to “take the edge off” as one guy once told me. But you could.
And there are times when you’d never thought of questioning whether art is useful at all in a world that only seems to be getting worse even after getting through Covid. I totally understand how art critic Jerry Saltz could write a ‘gaff’ as he did a year or so ago. That’s not what you mean. Simply: you get fed up with being nice. Being humble. Being supportive. Being used. Being being You without ever being thanked. Being loved unconditionally!
Myriad thoughts ran through my mind at DIA’s ‘must see’ Jack Whitten show. Musician Wadada Leo Smith was invited to give a performance Saturday afternoon. Perhaps what was lacking was audience improv allowing folk wander the galleries through the ticketed show rather than be seated. Still. Then again, that would have added an unnecessary layer to Whitten’s visual experience. Interesting experiment, though.
Amazing to learn that Allan Stone Gallery in 1965 gave Whitten his first commercial gallery showing in New York just one year out of Cooper Union college. Allan Stone: his most unbelievable eyes. Early work by ‘household’ art names. Let alone his passion for anything and everything that caught his eye. There’s a doco somewhere.
Almost better not to read too much or anything of the DIA Whitten show. Just experience. Everyone will see something different. There’s the genius. The Greek Alphabet series painted between 1975-78 never before assembled. Don’t even need to know that.
Snapshots in paint of a lost civilization? A world on the brink? A world in renewal? Barbed wire, radar blips, 9/11, flotillas of navy destroyers, screws suspended in limbo by a magnetic sun, Cubist faces, aerial views akin Edward Burtynsky, indecipherable text redacted, covert satellite views, music score akin Xenakis, faded cave paintings. Maps. Maps of the mind. Memory. Fast forward to one of Whitten’s last works Soul Map (2015). “Through memory we reconstruct our past. We honor the dead through memory.”
Work that could never be appreciated from a catalogue. When technology is finally in reach, it will, then maybe. But for now, you’ll have to schlep to Beacon NY. Ain’t so bad. A short walk from the Metro North train station 90min from Grand Central. No rush. Until July 10, 2023.
KITTY’s video of the month! Great fur feels alike. Where They Purr: Inspirational Interiors and the Cats Who Call Them Home
The White Lotus, Season 2 has become a guilty pleasure as the sun goes down, all the leaves raked, many more mundanities to be done before snowfall. Gosh! Does it make the show even more delicious if you have indeed done dinner at San Domenico and know Sicily? Less of a voyeur? Hope all the nice cast don’t all end up floating upside down in the last ep (dropping Dec 11). Great casting, particularly Aubrey Plaza as Harper who seems happy but isn’t then totally isn’t then happy again. Turning always on a dime of emotion. Just the thought such another life.
Great The Voice link is no longer. Corrupted! So HERE is the original:
Great Xmas fun from Melissa Errico. [guess if you’re not a Sondheim ‘nut’ it won’t be such a ‘ho ho ho’ but we’re among ‘nuts’ here aren’t we squirrels. Just wish one ‘nut’ would consult creature social services and leave my soffit! I am conflicted by creature persistence and an electrified ‘nut’. Aren’t we all I hear Amy Schumer crying….:)
Can’t imagine Stephen Sondheim will be turning in his grave over this! He died just over a year ago. He rarely wrote for movies but when he did, unforgettable. This theme song all the more poignant given the terrible events transpiring this year.
The glass is not replaceable. And Just Like That…
Why do all the wounded creatures gravitate to the echelons of my garden Sierra Borgess? There he was, a six-pointer male, two emasculated antler. A Phantom of the Opera deer laying quietly in the winter sun by the fence. I will spray TomCat on my azaleas-do I get a free box for that product mention;) But if one had a choice….
Really keepin’ trying to get a streaming series to grab my attention (White Lotus S2 having ended) and keep returning to The Voice re-runs. Hello! Well: back to old-fashioned movies. KITTY proving a great film programmer. Maybe finally I can retire!
Excuse me. Would you keep the lobby clear. And don’t stare at the fish in the new Vassar College moat. They’ll get ideas. King Arthur was a long time ago.

If you’re a deer reading this (well, Cassie my lame deer could read) stay away from the Vassar Eco Reserve from December 17, 2022 to January 15, 2023. As one protestor once said to me, “there are a lot of humans that are a nuisance, take resources, inhibit sapling growth but we don’t…”
Meow, food for thought.
And btw, Vassar College, as an educational institution, pays no local taxes yet has always used community tax payer resources e.g fire, police. As a matter of curiosity, how much is the capture of a local ‘dissident’ creature worth?
The Crossroads Inn. Oedipus. Meow!
Zero competition now the Talk Shows have rested and are nig-nogging:) This is PG-K6 (for kittens under 6months). Sláintes Anderson Cooper and his Tequila (such a puppy): Seth and Lizzo Go Day Drinking. New Year’s already?
You know. Crying gives you wrinkles.
You need to learn how to cry without moving your forehead at all.
Guess this is more a XMas ‘upstairs/downstairs’ than a double-bill:
Rimsky-Korsakov’s opera Christmas Eve (until Jan 3 but available streaming VOD and Blu-Ray). Adapting a Gogol story (Ukrainian-Sorochyntsi) and set in Ukraine. The forever innovative Frankfurt Opera (only just surviving Covid even with government subsidy). KITTY so looking forward to the revival when finally she mounts a broomstick and bites the devil! ;)
Watching Station Eleven and recalled a Gorky quote I’ve never been able to verify: ‘Women see the future because they bear it’. Artists and writers seeing always the “huge pockets of false reality”. Arthur C. Clarke. Emily St. John Mandel.
Happy New Year!
; but the rain
Is full of ghosts tonight, that tap and sigh
Upon the glass and listen for reply,
P.S. Fear that I needs explain this website in an age of consumptive consumption. The scripted sections: ANDREW and KITTY are in a TV series inside ANDREW’s head, KITTEN ON MY MIND. Fictional characters may sometimes bear a resemblance to real life, the talking cat, of course;)! Real life celebrities who appear in the script are still in the mind of the script creator. Ofttimes in dream sequences. There is never an intention to make fun of said. Leave that up to greater’ comedic minds;) What would be the point of that in this context. If folk start to ask questions, great. If folk are judgmental and assume the script is somehow politically biased or…then another TV show is most probably for you. No pressure. Plenty more out there.
