Aznavour was such an inspiration. What Makes a Man a Man has been an echo in my heart ever since my teens. He was a wonderful actor - Shoot the Piano Player.
94’s not such a bad age to depart.
What an enormous legacy of music he leaves.
Don’t know that Aznavour ever sung this song. But he should have:
That song was basically soundtrack music in the film La Piscine. Genius of composer Michel Legrand and particularly lyricists Marilyn and Alan Bergman that it became iconic.
Aznavour's other/or the greatest hit She was not that cleverly harmonic or indeed lyricistic. How many rock musicians are…that …well…quite a few actually…no names and no names of those who clearly never were ahummm past, present, future.
Aznavour sold the song. Moreover: inhabited the song. There is really no other way to sing. But many successful recording artists do. Alas….
Singers etc etc have a load to learn from the past.
Most certainly from Charles Aznavour.
all those amazingly unknown songs from faraway countries…
Always it will be very present.
btw- if the song She were He, would it ever have been the same ‘hit’…
CHARLES AZNAVOUR
