Your moon and your rose…

Irony for Sardonic Creatures

ANDREW's Video of the Month. Please don't try this on your piano at home, kittens! OK, which TV episode is that referencing? The lucky winner will get KITTY humming you to sleep.

From March 22-28, the Paris Theater [NYC] presents Milestone Movies: The Anniversary Collection - 1974, a 15-film selection of classics, with nine 35mm prints, including two archival prints, as well as the NYC premiere of the DCP restoration of Foxy Brown. No surprise that Laura Poitras is a fan of The Conversation and will introduce the 11:15 am show on Sat March 23. Walter Murch's sound design truly deserves a cinema.

…long as the world lasts, my friend, who has not been a friend of fortune, hindered in his path along that lonely hillside; he has been turned aside by terror.

From all that I have heard from him in heaven he is, I fear already so astray, that I have come to help him much too late. Go now with all your persuasive word with all that is required to see that he escapes. Bring help to him that I may be consoled. For I am Beatrice who send you on. I come for where I most long to return. Love prompted me. That love which makes me speak.- Dante: Inferno-Canto II

Guess Lewis Carroll's Alice In Wonderland stands up to scrutiny compared deGrasse Tyson's integration of Dune 2! :)

Where were we going...

Salient facts from NOVA’s Polar Extremes: Ice Worlds:

87% of a gallon of gasoline contains 5lbs of carbon. An average American car totals 25miles p/gallon.  Average car mileage is 12,000 mils p/a releasing 1 ton of carbon. In the U.S. about 100 million cars on the road releasing 330,000 tons of carbon p/d. Add the 1billion cars in the rest of the world: 3 million tons of carbon everyday. Add all the industrial use the figure totals 12.5 billion carbon tons p/a. Through ice cores, scientists have seen that the planet’s CO2 has remained fairly stable for the last 300,000 years. Over the past 150 years not so.

Creative Climate Awards Opening Night 2024 [April 21]

Age! What percentage of human cultural endeavor’s about that? When AI grows up a bit more, traverses its teenage ‘nut house years’-quoting Carol Burnett here quoting John Bradshaw’s The Eight Stages of Man- AI will maybe tell us. Is it 50%? More, though, in reality maybe it’s more about youth: created, won, lost, remembered. Is there a difference, if so will AI tell us impartially what is that? Try telling a teenager or a middle-aged man [hello Ricky:)] they’re in an age continuum! No hope for that therapy.

Scientists harness power of artificial intelligence to battle wildfires

Not hard to believe Mr. William Shatner just turned 93 looking amazing. Tis possible if you live not just exist. A ‘golden girl’ appeared on Johnny Carson having got her black belt at 90. [Lucille Thompson -Johnny Carson's Tonight Show March 27, 1986, no YouTube link but a DVD boxed set] She’d normally chop two planks instead of one but ‘Johnny’s chat’ depleted her ‘chi’. True.

Not the only 93y/old in history, Bill!: Florence Hodges, 93, of Dothan, Alabama.

Kung Fu granny. Now you’re feline’ old, right:)

And if one’s religious leanings are towards a God, inclusivity here, then clear with climate change that the almighty wasn’t just having a bad year or decade. We primates screwed up a divine plan. Hard not to disagree with Jonathan Franzen: What if We Stopped Pretending the Climate Apocalypse Can Be Stopped [The New Yorker] One could also argue, what’s the point of writing/composing/creating/developing if the world will end as it surely will historically? Enough examples of present day human core sampling to depress us all. One could argue they’ve been horrendous wars throughout the centuries so why should we care about 30,000 here or a million there who ain’t even combatants? Enough examples of present day human core…They aren’t soldiers so parades simply will pass by. A speech, a news headline: meaningless forgiveness in a hundred years time.  Oratory, still the world turns.

Broadway can change your mind! In a very unusual way. Seeing Carol Burnett live proved how small one can feel, how much one could grow. Survival?! Another department. Another floor.

Another irony on a rainy Spring come Winter day Upstate New York, indeed anywhere nowadays!: Menus-Plaisirs – Les Troisgros a 4hour doc by Fred Wiseman. True irony is that if you seek and engender organic ingredients you too could come close to this culinary paradise at a fraction of the price. You get what’s you pay for. As one patron quips when asked for….: I’m allergic to the bill!
