To its NY cred credit, the White Box Art Center moved into its Broome St space many, many years ago and way, way ahead of many 'arty' neighbors in the same district. They continue to think, think, and think again. Their latest initiative is a tripartite ‘arts lab’ for new work: sound, performance, literature. Opera director R.B. Schlather’s version of Handel’s rarely performed 1735 opera Alcina (it was a discovery vehicle for the legendary Joan Sutherland and conductor husband Richard Bonynge) is the first in the gallery’s SoundLounge slot. Performances until this Sunday. PHOTOS of rehearsals HERE.
