There was a restoration of The Leopard some years ago now. After seeing three movies that day of the screening I wanted to just take a quick look at what they had done then go home. Totally amazed I sat there for the entire 3 hours. It had become a totally new experience (of a film I'd seen many times) !. Visconti became seen as a cliche of himself like many do inevitably. The detail in that movie is to be wondered at. It is no surprise when you know that Visconti was directing the Italian premieres in Rome theater of Arthur Miller, Tennessee Williams etc not so long after WWII.

When holding sons in our hands
Wondering why
When all we had believed in has lost
One beautiful Spring day
Tenderest of breeze
Incessant song in the trees
Where will we remember if not here?
