Ian Holm had a focus, stillness and searching quiet intensity making him magnetic on the movie screen. As if his characters had not so much removed themselves from life but life had somehow removed itself from them for some inexplicable reason. Every role seemed to question our existence. Perfect, of course, for Alien (1979). Some other films many may not have seen, The Sweet Hereafter haunts me to this day.
