Film composer James Horner died when his light aircraft crashed last week.
Listen to the entire score. Horner may not have broken new ground as such in film composition, but he knew how to be simple; how to develop his thematic material (perhaps with heart on sleeve-no less engaging for that); how to seduce an audience into the director's imagery.
How to awaken the soul.
And British actor Patrick Macnee also passed away. Race out and buy EVERY boxed set of The Avengers- just to realize how great and fun British television could be (ABC not BBC btw).
That’s not just hyperbole btw: The Avengers had great storylines on par with- but more often than not, better and with a punchline than say …Columbo. (sticking my neck out here: but I watched them all and both: The Avengers as a kid not a teen [told my father that it was a ‘wildlife doc’ or improving my English or- maybe he believed the latter ‘cause he didn’t switch it off!…] - scary fun but there was no ‘fun’ in those riffs as a kid. (I guess kids [that's natal!] are used to taking on everything and anything nowadays. Yet at what price...?) Made you believe in Chomsky as a ‘babe’- ooops, my bamboo neck again…;) Was it Patricia Highsmith vs Raymond Chandler vs little U...? Now there's a poignant OFSTED exam question;) !!
