“Love does not consist of gazing at each other, but in looking outward together in the same direction.”

Camarades de Kitty!
Not normally into cat pic sites but Kitty, somehow, found this unusual Indonesian site.
Was that cat 'out on the town' with Pierre Huyghe;)?

What's not to miss streaming his weekend? One of the great American operas of the repertoire Carlisle Floyd's Susannah from San Francisco Opera conducted by Karen Kamensek who did such a great job with Philip Glass' Akhnaten at the Met Opera (but only from this Sat until end-Sun). And ‪Michael Flatley's spectacular dance show Celtic Tiger‬ (until Sunday afternoon)

So much great opera streaming. It's an acquired taste for many, I know. Yet so many of these great works resonate clear as a bell for our times as they did back when. Working my way through Rossini's William Tell, ingeniously staged as always by Graham Vick and his regular team, in 2013 at the Rossini Festival Pesaro in Italy. It's a schlep, 4 hours, but one's patience is earned with one of the greatest endings in the operatic repertoire. Again, not exactly a storyline that needs much tweaking to be totally relevant toady! (The red staircase ending doesn't quite work for me as everything's in the music, though its idea of revolution's oft irony clearly punches above its weight and triumphs as do all other decisions in the staging.) All round exhilarating evening of stagecraft meeting musicianship. [just an exclaimer if needs be about 'punching': the Graham Vick team have a fairly flawless 30+ years reputation of opera production. Pesaro is an illustrious annual summer festival but most certainly not a high-tech opera house..hope that clarifies].

Would I have imagined such a great evening in the theater as did iconoclastic Australian director Barrie Kosky if I'd listened to a recording of Mussorgsky's little known Sorochintsy Fair (Komische Oper Berlin)? Mundanity can actually be very, very funny. At least if you're on the outside looking in. Who saw that great Jim Jarmusch film Paterson? Mundanity equally sad and poignant as it is our life. Everyone's.

There's lots of Kosky up there: Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande (expiring Wed July 8) and Puccini's La bohème (expiring July 17), and Eugene Onegin (expiring July 31).
Haven't seen these yet but sure they'll be worth ones time. Another iconoclast director Richard Jones has his La bohème up there (expiring July 16)

Is iconoclast even a relevant word nowadays? Surely that word is the new normal?

Kitty: Am I 'nuts'? Just woke up from a ‘cat-mare’. A squirrel was rocking my hammock with its teeth singing 'don'tcry for me I'm a squirrel, the truth is I never left you'.
Andrew: Join the club! Sounds like all my dreams. [smiles]
Kitty: [confused]
Andrew: hey- Irish dancing tonight with Celtic Tiger.
Kitty: Meaow-rrrrrrrhhh! My paws are primed!
