The sweetest life is in knowing nothing, until you learn of pleasure or pain.

Even now I can envy you [Eurysaces] this: you sense nothing of this trouble. The sweetest life is in knowing nothing, until you learn of pleasure or pain. But when you do come to that time, then, amongst enemies, you will have to show what kind of son from what kind of father you are. But until that time feed yourself on the easy breezes, nursing your young life, a delight to your mother here.

Sophocles' Ajax

There was a remarkable evening last night at the Guggenheim Museum. And hopefully was another one tonight when actor John Turturro joined fellow thespians from last night in an enterprise founded by Bryan Doerries known as Outside the Wire (Theater of War) that presents very little rehearsed readings by theater and film illuminati to all manner of war veterans/prisoners/combatants/health inflicted/students/YOU name it any one with problems!

And there will be remarkably more! Check it out. Excerpts from Greek plays are performed but more importantly discussion thereof is almost obligatory and certainly inescapable by the indefatigable Bryan Doerries. Many people have heard of the playwright Sophocles but many don’t know that he was in real life a General of a real life Greek Army. He was General Patton before Patton (bad example?-where's Simon Schama when u most need him?-bad example?) and yet also a playwright able to see both sides of what is war and its casualties. Maybe there is more to be said and maybe not. …….
