How’s about this for a double-bill:
Maria and Being the Ricardos, in my mind possibly the best performances thus far of Jolie and Kidman. The latter film pitch perfect. Pablo Larrain’s Callas, of course moments utter beauty, but so needs some madness. Spencer somewhat of a masterpiece. Dear Diana never deluded. Callas needs some Werner Schroeter, little extant except for some Norma commentary. His films hard to find.
Can’t imagine ya ‘all watching Mubi movies to enrich your soul: great little short The Fall by Jonathan ‘The Zone of Interest’ Glazer [just expired]. How’s about Keira Knightley’s Black Doves, like no she didn’t write or direct it, a very nice non-tortured life being just an actress. What’s with these Americans? Black Doves seems a slow very interesting burn. Ep 2 kicks in…like Keira’s desperate…comm’on…well, if not there’s always Gladiator 2 that fact finding documentary into Roman life hard to imagine any different from our own:( Tick, bingeworthy! Keira’s so good in Black Doves- mercurial, sprite-ish-and a great supporting cast without whom she’d be high and dry quite honestly with no-one to ‘puck’ with.
Was it three glasses though? Actually Keira it was 7, a hit, but who knew he had an illegitimate sober dictator. So there we are! O were. Kids by the lake. ……
Bingeworthy 6h is Zero Day. Lesli Linka Glatter directed 25 eps of Homeland and much more so knows what’s needed. Not sure everyone will buy De Niro’s denouement speech but by now the American people know that anything is possible! De Niro is De Niro. He’s played the Jack Nicholson About Schmidt in Everybody’s Fine. What Robert De Niro needs is someone to write him a crazy soulful part. Someone to write an insanely beautiful role like no other. He’s already played a ferret. The cat’s working on it!
And the late deceased writer/director Jeff Baena at least departed with a beautiful movie. Hackneyed adjective but it was BEAUTIFUL. And CARING! Two words that can’t be oft used nowadays. And the film bravely embraces a somewhat controversial concept of mental illness that you start with asking what is real to the patient. Cause it’s REAL. Not a commonly accepted get go.
Baby Reindeer will be a hard watch if not impossible for some. Understanding of human nature admirable, somewhat abhorrent if a victim. Empathy, sympathy; sympathy, empathy. Only just caught up with Ep 1 of Black Mirror S3. [I’ll be back Netflix keeping’ an eye on you!] The first two Brit seasons were the most groundbreaking in decades of Brit TV, superb irony created by The Guardian TV critic Charlie Brooker. If you only watch Ep1, S3 you’ll get a very good idea of modern American society. Think I’d rather sleep with the truck driver. At least if murdered know I’d’a done somat’ really bad!
Can’t imagine all gets any better otherwise what point?! At least President Trump annulled the House of UnAmerican Cat Activities according to Truth Social. What’s with this preferential ‘doggy doo’ who poop no wrong? In fairness what was ‘Willow’ up to under that Presidential chamber? Marx wasn’t such a bad, misguided guy. No lacking in latter-day PR either. Rumour that Warren Beatty’s making a movie with a cat. So the world turns.
For those not to know Louis Wain now’s the time to know. Single handedly, literally, made THE CAT an equal in Victorian England. The Electrical Life of Louis Wain though a bit-bio-picky, so good are the performances/production design etc such a great Saturday night movie. Why is life so beautiful yet cruel equal measures?

Watched Stallone’s family life so only fair to watch Alec Baldwin’s. Totally different people but children are all the same, all different. Eternal fascination. Even if one has none. Of course all a PR exercise. Wouldn’t you if possibly facing prison for something so inexplicable and had the power to ‘share’! Forever wondering how the kids might suffer? In all reality shows so, so dross yet you hit a moment when OMG that’s ME! That heartbeat, seemingly so removed from our body politic, frees us from being alone in this world. Consciously re-creating!
