Das Wolkenphänomen in Maloja / Cloud Phenomena of Maloja (Arnold Fanck, 1924)

Florence Foster Jenkins took the Carnegie Hall stage in real life, at age 76, after a 32-year-long pursuit of a career as a singer.

"What we experienced was so hilarious," said singer/actress Marge Champion. "I was just totally unprepared for the fact that it did not seem to bother her in the least that everybody in the audience was convulsed with laughter, nor was she in any way thrilled by it. ... And it continued throughout the concert."

Dear Florence could easily (well maybe not so her vocals..)  be living/breathing in NY today. The 'they' would still be quite happy 'flattering her' , taking some more of her 'hard willed' worth. But never, ever her breath of life: and never, her breathe of music.

Florence (on her death bed in the movie): Was everyone laughing at me the whole time?

St. Clair Bayfield : I was never laughing at you: yours was the truest voice I ever heard.

Madame Florence: People may say I couldn’t sing but no-one can say I didn’t sing. Ha, ha.
