We are the bees of the invisible. We wildly collect the honey of the visible, to store it in the great golden hive of the invisible. Rilke

I'm always wondrin' whether to persist with this website. What is so liberating nowadays is never having to be beholden to any PR'dom. And that statement comes from someone who hasn't been blogging upwards to success but someone who started in the throne room and then fought for blogging rights. (oh- the idiots that I have encountered on that score...hey ho) I was and still am a dinosaur, alas. I believe that if one is given 'free' product, free opportunites, free screenings then one is somewhat 'morally bound to reciprocate but never to be a 'stool pigeon'. There is respect and there is feigning.

A little shocked that my videos have received 5,432 plays on Vimeo. (That's more than the population of Toronto. [Ohio]). I mean: even if I'd employed some 'elves' and sat with them everynight to 'hit' I couldn't have achieved that!

I was listening anew to Cole Porter. His life. And  just marveled at his lyric brilliance and bravery. How rich and carefree he was in the Great Depression. He happily 'married' a millionairess. And the sad end to his glittering life. It all could have been so so much worse. Rilke's angels I guess.

But here's a song from a very talented (relatively;) young talent that always makes me smile and always a 'yang'.

Words and music. There has never been a formula. Some write both, others just the music or lyrics to songs. I've wrote this before but Jerry Herman's music on it's own is perfectly OK. With his lyrics it is heavenly. .....I had no intention going down this avenue…. The same for many of the greatest rock songs of all time a few chords and then the lyrics....Would Richard Maltby be anywhere without David Shire? The latter clearly had a superlative compositional career. But would he have carried on in his head without Maltby? Just an example. But would the poem Morgen not of Richard Strauss but up to much without his music?

It's fascinating to analyze songs and soundtrack scores yet at the end of the day where does it all get you? Certainly more musically aware etc. None are Gustav Mahler nor Brahms nor Boulez nor were ever meant to be. Really: doesn't it all boil down to poetry? Something unsayable. Something unsinkable. Unsingable. Suffice to try again.

really sympathize with 'Rex' the alien dog who fought for his 'citizenship' and then lost his entire film career and so-called friends al because a 'bitch' cat accused him of of licking a 'bone'. Such is contemporary American life. To think that our beloved 'Americans' launched men into space all because of a black woman who had to pee in her pants to get to the black bathrooms. Thank 'cat and dog' all has changed……..
