Istanbul International

If anyone finds themselves in Istanbul (as you do) there is ArtInternational. (NOT the Biennale that takes place next year with mouthwatering selections for its Saltwater theme). Keeping 'it' global is Murat Orozobekov and Edward Winkleman's Moving Image Instanbul having had previous success with their fair in New York and London. No excuse not to see Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s 2014 Cannes award winning Kis uykusu (Winter Sleep) as it plays upcoming film fests in Hamburg, Helsinki, São Paulo, Vancouver, Busan, Haifa, Chicago and London. It is not showing at the New York Film Festival. In fairness, website FilmMisery (don't you wish you'd thought up that one {split infinitive don't work here- great name for a post-Lacanian digital thrash band, though, hey?- the split not the misery....] ) said "refreshingly missing [from the NYFF it] was far from a unanimous hit at Cannes, and I imagine might’ve tried the patience of some New York crowds more than they’d like". Hmmm: 196 minutes of Nuri Bilge Ceylan or the same staring at a Byzantine ceiling. Don't allow your shrink to make you choose! But, hey, what do I know! Just a guy with a camera seeing into a (or is my) soul.
